Privacy Policy

Decibel - Sound Level Meter · Effective February 15, 2026

The Short Version

Decibel does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All audio processing happens locally on your device. We never record or listen to your audio.

Microphone Access

Decibel requires microphone access to measure sound levels. Audio is processed entirely on-device in real-time to calculate decibel readings. No audio is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted. The raw audio data is discarded immediately after the decibel level is calculated.

Data Storage

Your saved measurements, notes, and settings are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. No data is sent to any server, cloud service, or third party. There are no user accounts and no sign-up required.

Apple HealthKit

Decibel can optionally write environmental audio exposure data to Apple Health, but only if you explicitly grant permission. This helps you track your hearing health over time.

HealthKit data is governed by Apple's privacy policy and never leaves your device through Decibel.

If you deny HealthKit access, the app continues to work normally. Decibel does not read any health data from HealthKit — it only writes environmental audio exposure records when you choose to save a reading with Health integration enabled.

Analytics & Tracking

Decibel contains no analytics frameworks, no ad SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no telemetry of any kind. We do not use any third-party services that collect data.

Network Usage

Decibel makes no network requests. The app works entirely offline. The only network activity associated with the app is through the App Store for updates.

Children's Privacy

Decibel does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page with the new effective date. Since Decibel collects no data, meaningful changes are unlikely.
